Hello friends, today we will discuss on the topic that is why Earth and other planets moves around the sun on its Orbit? Why the earth or any other planets not move away or not attracting towards the sun and remain on its fix Orbit? What is the reason behind the revolution of planets around Sun? So there is lots of question arising in our mind in this blog we will find the old answer of our questions.
So let's start......
we will understand this answer in two parts.
1. Role of gravity of the sun
Gravitational force is the force of attraction between two mass bodies separated by some distance. The sun and the earth are the two heavenly mass bodies and separated by 15 million kilometre {15,00,00,000 km}. So there is gravitational force between them , the sun attracts the earth towards it.
But There is a problem why sun is attracting the earth, not the earth attracting sun. The answer is the sun has greater mass than the earth. The Sun weighs about 333,000 times as much as Earth.
Mass of the sun - 1.989 × 10^30 kg
Mass of the earth - 5.972 × 10^24 kg
So ,the gravitational pull of sun is greater than gravitational pull of the earth. that's why the sun attracts the earth towards it. It is the Sun's gravity due to that the earth rotates around the sun.
What happen if there is no sun's gravity ?
If there is no sun's gravity then the earth and all other planet will moves in straight line according to Newton's first law of motion instead of circular path around sun.
here is one more thing to know.
2. Role of centripetal force
In this picture we can see this lady is rotating a stone . If we do this , we will observe that every time we pull the rope inside to rotate the stone. Actually when we are pulling the rope then we are applying centripetal force on the rope .
Why we are pulling the rope inside? Because the Stone always trying to maintain its straight line motion (due to Newton's first law of motion) at every point as we can see in this picture And we are pulling it inside in perpendicular direction to its straight line motion So that it follows tangential direction (Resultant path) at every point .That's why it follows circular line of motion .
Similarly let suppose The lady is as Sun ,The sun pulls the earth towards it due to gravitation force and that gravitation is works as centripetal force which pull the earth towards the sun , so that the earth rounds the sun. And Centripetal force is necessary for any object to keep it moving along a circular path. And there is no other force in solar system except sun's gravity that stops the Earth rotation around sun.
The moon is also orbiting the earth because of Earth's gravity.
Now we clearly understand that why Earth and other planets moves around the sun on its Orbit? Why the earth or any other planets not move away or not attracting towards the sun and remain on its fix Orbit?

Centripetal force-A centripetal force is a net force that acts on an object to keep it moving along a circular path. In simple word, When an object is in circular motion. This force exerted on the object towards the centre of circular path on which the object is revolving. For example, when we ride a bicycle or bike and driving on a curve road ,we lean towards the centre of the curve. Here we have to apply force in in inward direction towards the centre of the round curve. it is necessary for an object to keep it moving along a circular path
Newton's first law of motion- Everybody continues in its state of rest or in state of uniform motion unless it is not compelled by net external force.
