Matter- Anything that occupy space having mass and volume is called matter. Everything around us is matter . There are mainly three types of physical classification of matter .
  • Solid
  • Liquid
  • Gas
for more detail about solid, click the link below

.................................
In this page we only discuss about solid. Do you know what is solid ? What are the properties of solid. So Let's start .
Actually solid has no special definition . We define it through its properties. But if we talk about the main reason for different types of state (solid, liquid, gas) is due to intramolecular force of attraction.

  • If there is very low or negligible force of attraction between two constituent particles (atom, ions, molecules) then this is gas.
  • If there is some force of attraction between two constituent particles (atom, ions, molecules) then this is liquid.
  • If there is strong force of attraction between two constituent particles (atom, ions, molecules) then this is solid.

Now we clearly understand that state of matter depends upon the intramolucular force of attraction.
So, we will study now differences between different types of states of matter.

SOLID
LIQUID
GAS
Solid has definite shape, size and volume.
Liquid has no definite shape, size but has definite volume.
Gas has no definite shape, size and volume.
It has strong intermolecular force of attraction between constituents’ particles.
It has low intermolecular force of attraction between constituents’ particles.
It has negligible intermolecular force of attraction between constituents’ particles.
It has very low vacant space between constituent particles.
It has vacant space between constituent particles.
It has very high vacant space between constituent particles.
Its constituent particle has very low kinetic energy.
Its constituent particle has high kinetic energy.
Its constituent particle has very high kinetic energy.
It is non-compressible.

It can be compressed a little bit.

It is highly compressible
Matter.
It has hard, rigid.
It is not hard and rigid.
It has property of fluidity.
It has also property of fluidity.
for ex - iron, wood, chair , glass, plastic , ice, etc.
for ex - water ,milk, mud, oil etc.
for ex - air.

I think you all understand about it.

There are two also states of mater that is plasma state of matter and BEC ( Bose Einstein condensation )
Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC)
It is a state of matter of a dilute gas of boson cooled to temperature very close to absolute zero ( 0 K or -273 degree c). Under such conditions, a large fraction of bosons occupy the lowest quantum state, at which point microscopic quantum phenomena, particularly wavefunction interference, become apparent. A BEC is formed by cooling a gas of extremely low density, about one-hundred-thousandth the density of normal air, to ultra-low temperatures.
This state was first predicted, generally, in 1924–25 by  an Indian scientist Satyendra Nath Bose and World famous Albert einstein.

PLASMA state of matter
Plasma is a state of matter  in which an ionised gaseous substance becomes highly electrically conductive to the point that long-range electric and magnetic dominate the behavior of the matter.
It was first described by chemist Irving Langmuir.
